Liberal Studies

Liberal Studies promotes understanding of several disciplinary perspectives, a greater appreciation of differences and similarities among disciplines, and the integration of diverse views.

This major is appropriate for students whose career and personal goals require no specific major. It is not recommended for students continuing toward a specialized advanced degree requiring a specific undergraduate major.

Liberal Studies is particularly suited for those working professionals seeking to broaden their skills and enhance their opportunity for advancement.

Liberal Studies majors may not add a minor to their degree.

Many liberal studies majors pursue a career in education. With their education being an integration of diverse perspectives, many go on to be teachers, where one plays a strategic role in shaping and influencing young lives.

Positions such as pre-kindergarten, elementary, high school and special education teachers are of the most common occupations for liberal studies majors in the education field.

Other miscellaneous occupations held by liberal studies majors include top/mid-level managers, executives, administrators, sales occupations, office support staff and other administrative and management occupations.
