Get Involved

Do more than go to class, get involved in the biology department. Joining a student organization helps you get to know other students in your major, build your resume and make connections while at Texas Wesleyan. Take a look at the different opportunities you have to get involved in the biology department.

Summer 2019 Science Research Internships

The Summer Science Research Internship program is sponsored by the Welch Foundation (Chemistry Department) and the Redlich Trust (Biology Department). This support brings undergraduate students together during the summer at Texas Wesleyan University for an eight-week natural sciences research experience. Participants become familiar with the varied disciplines and methodology used in natural science research.

This year, topics in Organic and Electro-Chemistry, Biochemistry, Community and Population Ecology, and Genomics are offered to six students that have completed introductory coursework in Biology and Chemistry. Students awarded the summer research internship are expected to work eight-hour days, five days per week for eight weeks. Compensation is $10.10 an hour. The program begins at 8 a.m. June 3 and lasts through Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

Beta Beta Beta

Beta Beta Beta (Tri Beta) is a national biological honor society with a mission to encourage scientific leadership and build relationships in the scientific community. You'll network with future employers and have the opportunity to add leadership positions to your resume. As a student-lead organization, students set the agenda and plan events they want to participate in.

Biology Research Forum

Every semester, the biology department sponsors a public research forum for its students. Biology students are required to participate in research courses as part of their degree. Most of the student research presented at the forum stems from those high-level research courses.

The Biology Research Forum is held in the Science Lecture Theatre the last week of the fall and spring semester. All faculty, staff and students, even outside of the biology department, are invited to attend.
