Sociology Internship

As a sociology major, you're required to participate in a semester-long internship. This internship is designed to give you experience in the sociology field before graduation and help you decide what area of the profession you'd like to go into. You'll also complete academic work along with your internship hours.

How can I prepare?

The sooner you start looking into your options the better. Start planning for your internship at least a semester before. Allow yourself time to find your internship, get it approved by your advisor and get all of the details settled before you start.

How do I find an internship?

What are you interested in? Start looking at organizations in the field that interest you. They may already offer internships or you can talk to them about creating one. After you find an internship opportunity, talk to your advisor and have them approve your choice.

Not sure where to look? The sociology department has built relationships with different organizations in the area and can help you find an approved internship.

What are the requirements?

In order to get credit for your internship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Work at least 125 hours during the semester and log your time
  • Write daily journals about your role in the organization
  • Complete a final paper about your experience
