Responsibilities include designing and delivering instruction at the graduate level on the historic campus to students seeking a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Some internship supervision may be required during practicum courses. Advising students; conducting research; and participating in curriculum/program development are also required. Participating in all Department, School, and University-wide tasks and activities are also required. All graduate faculty are required to maintain high levels of scholarly activity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Prepares lessons and delivers instruction for evening, weekend, and online graduate level professional counseling courses.   
  • Adheres to the established class schedule and office hours requirements. Submits contracts, book requests, syllabi, grades, evaluations, and other required paperwork and reports in a timely manner. 
  • Develops and participates in grant projects that support innovation in professional counseling.
  • Participates in curriculum development, evaluation, and improvement.
  • Advices students at the graduate levels as appropriate and as required.
  • Supervises and evaluates practicum students.
  • Participates in discipline specific and non-discipline community service.
  • Participates in scholarly and academic activities.
  • Within nine months (fall & spring), teach at least three courses per term for a total of six courses per year.  Summer teaching is optional.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Education and Experience:

  • Earned doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from a COAMFTE graduate program, five years of clinical experience required, eligibility to become licensed as an LMFT in Texas within one year is required.
  • Eligibility for licensure as a LMFT-S within three years is required. 
  • Five years of collegiate-level teaching experience preferred. 
  • Some experience using Blackboard as an instructional tool preferred.
  • Preferred applicants will have a credential as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. 
  • Evidence of an applied clinical research agenda and clinical practice is mandatory at hiring and is expected while employed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of marriage and family therapy models, techniques and their application. 
  • Experience applying qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to doctoral level coursework and dissertations. 
  • Ability to model desired instructional strategies. 
  • Competent in applied technologies. 
  • Familiarity with academic policies and procedures of higher education institutions.
  • Thorough understanding of the rules, standards, regulations and laws related to student records.
  • Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with FERPA regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to demonstrate and provide excellent service to both the University and the community.
  • Ability to work effectively with other University personnel.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and write in English including, but not limited to the ability to teach college level courses, publish manuscripts, and make academic and professional presentations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business related correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and answer questions from all relevant constituents and stakeholders.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from community groups, students, teachers, school administrators, and University employees. 

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data for the purpose of assessing programs and conducting research. 
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, & volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, calculus and statistics.
  • Ability to use statistical analyses to design research studies in education and related fields.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
