ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Prepares and delivers instruction for day, evening, and some online class courses at the undergraduate level on main campus.
- Participates in teaching effectiveness and assurance of learning efforts.
- Provides instruction in courses such as: Mass Media and Society, Digital Production, Digital Production for Non-Majors, Advanced Digital Production, Integrated Media Reporting. The ability to teach Film Aesthetics, Mass Media Laws and Ethics or Advertising Copywriting would be a plus.
- Engages in scholarship/research by publishing in peer-reviewed journals and other quality outlets, attending and presenting papers at conferences, and maintaining relationships with other fellow researchers.
- Advises students in addition to assisting in advising Rambler TV, Texas Wesleyan’s cable access and online newscast.
- Assists in maintaining relationships with professional media outlets to maintain contacts and stay current on trends in mass communication.
- Adheres to the established class schedule and office hours. Submits contracts, book requests, syllabi, grades, evaluations, and other required paperwork and reports by due dates.
- Supports the maintenance of accreditation with SACSCOC.
- Provides career advisement to students at undergraduate levels.
- Participates in School-based faculty committee meetings.
- Participates in University-wide committees and professional development activities.
- Participates in student recruitment and retention activities.
- Supervises and evaluates student interns as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Earned doctorate in mass communication or related field from an accredited university is preferred. ABDs will be considered. Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence is required and relevant mass communication experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Familiarity with academic policies and procedures of higher education institutions.
- Ability to work effectively with other University personnel.
- Ability to provide service to both the University and the community.
- Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations and laws related to student records.
- Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to be discrete in handling confidential and sensitive matters, while complying with FERPA regulations.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and/or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, and University employees.
