Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide a high level of both in-hall and on-campus visibility/availability:
- Live in an on-site apartment within assigned residence hall.
- Schedule and maintain office hours to account for bulk of weekly hours. (25-30)
- Be available as a resource for residents and student staff members.
- Respond to student concerns in a timely manner.
- Attend in-hall programs and other special events hosted by the University.
Participate in hall director on-call rotation:
- Along with other hall directors, participate in the on-call rotation during weeknights, weekends and breaks/holidays.
- Serve as primary contact for RAs during non-business hours.
- Appropriately respond to student conduct and/or crisis issues, maintenance emergencies, and other campus safety concerns.
- Follow designated protocol in referring situations when appropriate to relevant campus personnel or, when necessary, to Fort Worth emergency services.
- Follow up with the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Housing and Residence Life regarding incidents that occur during on-call shifts.
- Follow after-action reporting procedures, including writing and submitting incident reports.
Serve as primary supervisor to a staff of part-time Resident Assistants (RAs):
- Assist in the RA recruitment and selection process each semester (when necessary) to ensure that all positions are filled with competent, committed and service-oriented student leaders.
- Help coordinate both system-wide and in-hall aspects of RA training prior to the start of each fall and spring semesters.
- Manage the recurring RA on-call rotation, providing adequate coverage for all on-call shifts (weeknights, weekends, holidays/breaks, etc.).
- See to the ongoing personal and professional development of RA staff through weekly staff meetings and regular individual interactions.
- Conduct the employee evaluation process for the RA staff each semester.
- Serve as primary timekeeper for RA staff (including regular time approvals); communicate with Human Resources to resolve any time reporting issues.
Coordinate the front desk operations of a residence hall community:
- Serve as primary supervisor for part-time Desk Assistants (DAs).
- Coordinate the recruitment, selection, on-the-job training, evaluation and ongoing personal and professional development of DA staff.
- Provide a functional front desk by ensuring regular coverage by well-trained, attentive and customer-service oriented DAs.
- Serve as primary timekeeper for DA staff (including regular time approvals); communicate with Human Resources to resolve any time reporting issues.
Serve as primary caretaker of the physical facilities of a residence hall community:
- Conduct regular building rounds to identify maintenance and housekeeping needs of the building.
- Perform monthly safety checks to ensure that all building safety measures are functional.
- Coordinate the reporting, tracking, and follow-up of work order process; work with Facilities to ensure that maintenance issues are addressed in a timely manner.
- Communicate with vendors to ensure that vacant rooms are cleaned and ready for future occupants.
- Identify building needs and develop ideas for improvement of spaces and other equipment to promote a vibrant residential community.
Manage the administrative functions of the community:
- Coordinate the resident move-in and move out processes each semester.
- Maintain an accurate key inventory and submit key requests in a timely manner; complete key audits prior to opening and after closing each semester. Maintain residence hall staff keys and ensure that all building/office keys are kept in a secure location at all times.
- Ensure the completion and ongoing tracking of room condition forms.
- Disseminate pertinent departmental information to residents, student staff members and faculty (when appropriate).
- Use University issued purchasing card to purchase program supplies and other necessary items for the hall; follow University purchasing policies and ensure proper tracking of purchases and upkeep of related budget.
Cultivate a vibrant and healthy residence hall through ongoing community development efforts:
- Develop effective in-hall and campus-wide programming efforts that support the mission of both the University and the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
- Build healthy relationships with students and provide the appropriate amount of challenge and support to encourage student development.
- Address conduct violations within the community and provide consistent and fair application of University policies.
- Provide mediation for roommate/resident conflicts, including the completion of roommate agreements when necessary.
Support the academic mission of Texas Wesleyan University:
- Encourage the academic success of students by creating learning opportunities and encouraging the development of academic skills.
- Seek out opportunities to collaborate with other University departments.
- Serve as an informal liaison for Housing with other University departments, faculty and staff.
- Serve on University, divisional and departmental committees as assigned.
Assist with summer operations:
- Work with the Coordinator of Residence Life to prepare for arrival and departure of summer camps and conferences.
- Attend to the needs of summer guests and respond to requests in a timely manner.
- Provide the same level of attention and service to residential students staying over the summer that is expected during the regular academic year (as described above).
Participate in ongoing professional development activities:
- Attend weekly staff meetings with other Hall Directors and Housing administrative staff.
- Keep supervisor informed of ongoing issues and personal/professional needs through regularly scheduled meetings and daily check-ins.
- Participate in Hall Director training prior to the start of each semester; assist in the ongoing training of new full-time staff members.
- When possible, attend professional conferences relevant to residence life and the field of student affairs; look for opportunities to present educational sessions at conferences that build the brand of Texas Wesleyan University and the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
- Provide specific coordination of a recurring Housing special assignment, such as advisement of RHA, RA recruitment/selection and RA training (to be negotiated with supervisor).
- Complete other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required, as well as experience in a residence hall setting (or analogous experience in a student affairs area within a higher education setting).

- Knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within student personnel administration.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques with the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
Valid and current driver’s license.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to current & prospective residents and other University employees.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
