To provide technical services in a manner which will effectively and efficiently meet the needs of faculty and patrons. Flexible hours Monday-Friday, 25 hours per week.

Reports To: Assistant Professor of Library Science
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Location: Main Campus

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Preserve library purchased and gifted materials to be placed in the physical collection.
  • Handle digital processing of archival items by scanning original material, editing scanned images with Photoshop, and preparing images for online access.
  • Repair and discard items as needed.
  • Update item records in catalog system.
  • Assist with the control of cataloging supplies.
  • Assist in the preparation of bindery and contract cataloging shipments.
  • Maintain excellent customer service standard, assisting patrons with general questions needed at the Circulation Desk.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 6 months computer and/or word processing experience.
  • Previous library experience in technical services preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks, and great attention to detail.
  • Ability to type 40 w.p.m. and strong data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including filing.
  • Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current software programs.
  • Fundamental knowledge of data retrieval.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to adhere to University & departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with privacy regulations.
  • Ability to maintain an organized work space and filing system.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
