Letter from Texas Wesleyan Human Resources

Dear Texas Wesleyan University Faculty and Staff –

The safety and security of our campus community is of utmost importance. Due to the quickly developing landscape and potential implications to our faculty, staff and student activities, we are sharing the most current Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance on COVID-19. Currently, there are no known cases of COVID-19 impacting the Texas Wesleyan University campus community.

The CDC has issued comprehensive guidance for colleges and universities with routine updates as more information becomes available. Texas Wesleyan University will follow CDC guidance and require self-observation for 14 days for anyone who has traveled to a country or region considered to have Level 2 and Level 3 Widespread Sustained Transmission before returning to campus. Employees who require self-observation for 14 days and are unable to work on campus due to restrictions related to possible exposure COVID-19 should contact the Office of Human Resources and their supervisor. Employees requiring self-observation for 14 days may work from home. During the self-observation period, employees must remain alert to symptoms that include fever, cough, or difficulty breathing. Additionally, the self-observation requires that individuals practice social distancing by avoiding places and events where others congregate, maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others and not using public or ride share transportation for 14 days.

As a note, if you are experiencing these symptoms but have not traveled to a country considered Level 2 or Level 3 by the CDC, we ask that you consult with your medical provider prior to returning to the Texas Wesleyan University campus.

Employees who utilize the required 14-day self-observation period and are experiencing symptoms, Texas Wesleyan University will treat the required 14-day self-observation period as an illness. Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) eligible employees may choose to submit the Certification of Health Care Provider for Employee’s Serious Health Condition to treat the 14-day self-observation period as qualified leave under FMLA. Measures you can perform to prevent the spread of the virus include:

  • Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
